“Excellence.” I’d agree with that.

When I turned 40 I knew I didn’t want a party (aside from gathering with my immediate family around the kitchen table.)  Instead, to really celebrate I wanted to flee the country if even for just a long weekend.  So after pouring over ideas and reviews I put the plan on the table: direct flight to Cancun from Philly, 4 nights in Playa Mujeres.  Done.

At the time my priorities were simple – adults only, not too crazy of a party scene and good food.  I’m happy to say I think we nailed it. We spent our blissful escape at Excellence Playa Mujeres.  It was gorgeous and calm and exactly what I had in mind when I envisioned how I wanted to ring in the new decade.

My husband and I were able to totally relax and enjoy ourselves.  Every night we dined in a different restaurant and the food was always quite good. The Excellence resorts offer all inclusive drinks as well so we made good use of that with the cocktails by the pools and before dinner at the martini bar.  We found the beach to be peaceful and lovely and there were gorgeous outdoor pools everywhere you looked.

Our room was modern and large and every morning we had breakfast out on on our balcony.  Often that balcony was the spot for an afternoon nap in the beach breeze. Total bliss. We found the service to be present, polite but never pushy.  In the evenings there were entertainment/singers and outside bars to enjoy but there was never much of a party scene… or maybe because we weren’t looking for it we never found it.

All in all I would whole heartedly recommend this resort for an adults-only rest and recovery escape.  We really loved it and had a hard time leaving. If given the chance I would love to explore their family resort as well.
